I am Anamika Sen, a school teacher. Although I love teaching, I am getting mentally exhausted due to the pressure of students, excessive expectations from parents, and the rules and regulations of the administration.

I came into the teaching profession with many dreams. I loved teaching children, seeing the joy in their eyes of learning something new. But now everything seems to have changed.

Exam scores, parental demands, and school administrative pressure are becoming more important than classroom studies. At the end of the day, I just do my duties, but I don't feel the love in my heart like I used to.

I'm tired, but I can't quit teaching. So should I continue like this?

Dear Anamika,

Your story is not just yours, but the heart of many teachers. Teaching is a great profession, but the reality is sometimes difficult. It's natural that you're tired, but that doesn't mean that your passion is completely dead.

1. You are tired, but not lost.

You said you can't love like you used to. But think about it—what was your goal when you first started teaching?

Maybe the administrative workload has increased now, but even in the midst of it, you are shaping the lives of your students. Their smiles, the joy of learning something new—don't these give you even a little satisfaction?

2. How to cope with administrative pressure?

The administration may make rules, the parents may impose their expectations, but will you completely lose yourself? Or will you make some space for yourself?

  • You don't have to take on all the responsibilities alone. Talk to your colleagues, share the work.
  • Work on time—don't try to make everything perfect.
  • Set your own boundaries—if something is disrupting your peace of mind, think about how you can make it easier.

3. Bring back your love for students

At the end of the day, you are a guide for your students. You may not be able to change everything, but if you continue to love them, you will find that you are finding joy in being a teacher again.

Spend at least 10 minutes each day doing something that relieves your fatigue—maybe talking to them outside of class, teaching something creative, or doing something that relaxes you as a teacher.

4. Give yourself time.

Teaching is part of your identity, but it's not your whole life. Make time for yourself—do some hobbies, learn something new, spend time with family and friends.

Finding your own existence outside of work will bring new life to your work.

5. Think about alternatives before quitting your job

If you really feel like it's no longer possible, then you need to think about alternatives. Maybe you can start teaching online, do some freelancing, or find an educational institution where the workload is less.

But don't make any hasty decisions. Gradually develop a safe alternative for yourself.

Last words:

Teaching is not just a profession, it is a responsibility, a place of love. But if you are tired, it is not possible to teach well. So be compassionate with yourself.

You will find your way.

Best wishes,
